A
Barossa Breakfast
Beneath a Fig Tree

South Australia's Barossa region is heaven on earth for food and wine fanatics; and seeing it and trying its bounty is best done from the freedom of a self-contained bed and breakfast cottage.

One of the most charming of these is Fig Tree Cottage.

Set in Angaston, one of the prettiest townships in the Barossa, Fig Tree Cottage is a beautifully restored stone cottage built by early settlers in the 1840's. The two bedroom cottage is a home away from home for two to four people. It has a double and a twin bedroom, cosy lounge room with an open fire place and an eat-in kitchen looking out on an old-fashioned Barossa garden.

Visitors to Fig Tree Cottage find it well-stocked with eggs, Schulz's double-smoked bacon, Barossa-baked bread, home made jams and marmalade, fresh fruit and orange juice - all the makings for the perfect holiday breakfast.

A table under the old fig tree is the ideal place to sample the local fare after a day visiting the many wineries, galleries and antique shops in the area.

There are many excellent restaurants in the Barossa, catering to all tastes. There are also many shops, such as butchers, bakers and delis selling wonderful local produce which can be prepared in the Fig Tree Cottage kitchen or on the barbecue.

For a quiet night at home, what about a good book or a game of cards with a glass of wine, some cheese, paté and fresh bread in front of the open fire?

Tariff based on $160 - $180 a double, with minimum two night stays on weekends.
